geology and landforms
There are many cool landforms in the Grand Canyon. There is Vulcans Throne which is a cinder cone volcano that erupted only 74,000 years ago. There is also Coconino Sandstone which are sheer 350 feet sandstone cliffs. These cliffs are home to millions of fossilized insect and lizard tracks. There are also many Canyon overlooks that are spread out everywhere you look. There is Red Wall Limestone which are huge red cliffs that tower 500 to 800 feet over the Tonto Platform and divided forest and desert habitats. A major landform in the Grand Canyon is the Colorado River which is what created the Grand Canyon. The moving water caused erosion, creating the Grand Canyon. It winds 1,450 miles and the flow of the river is controlled by the Glen Canyon Dam. There are two top edges to the Grand Canyon called the North and South Rims. Rocks that can be found in the Grand Canyon include limestone, shale, sandstone, quartz, calcite, gypsum and clay. Some minerals that can be found here are copper, silver and uranium.
